Autumn on Brewery Flats near Lewistown

I painted this piece "Plein Air" while on a paint-out with the Montana Painters Alliance.  This fall we painted in the Lewistown, MT area. There is a spot in the town that marks the geographic center of Montana in a hotel's lobby.  The area turns so colorful in the fall with the aspen, cottonwoods, and chokecherry bushes ablaze with color.  This I painted at Big Spring Creek.  This area is one of the world's largest fresh water springs.  Historically known as a sacred site to Native American tribes, and later recorded as a valued resource for Lewistown's early settlers, Big Spring Creek is a tributary of the Judith River.
